Before we start planning our family vacation, it is important to stop for a moment and think about what kind of experience we are looking for: do we want to immerse ourselves in nature, explore new cultures or enjoy exciting outdoor adventures? With these ideas in mind, we can choose the destination that best suits our family’s preferences and needs.

The adventure in the Paracas desert

Once in Lima, plan at least a couple of days to explore the south of the city. One of the most exciting experiences you can enjoy as a family is to explore the impressive Paracas desert. Located on the southern coast of Peru, this desert offers spectacular landscapes of golden sand dunes and rocky cliffs that plunge into the Pacific Ocean. Here, you can enjoy activities such as sandboarding, dune buggy rides and boat excursions to spot marine wildlife, including penguins, sea lions and dolphins – an adventure that is sure to be remembered by all!

The floating islands of Titicaca
Being located in one of the highest cities in the world, this visit should be considered after the visit to Cusco or Arequipa and becomes another fascinating option for a family vacation is to explore the mysterious floating islands of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Here, they can visit the artificial islands built by the local inhabitants with totora, an aquatic plant that grows in the lake. You can take totora boat rides, learn about the traditions and customs of the local inhabitants, and enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the surroundings – a unique experience that is sure to leave everyone in awe!

Visiting a community in the Sacred Valley
Some years ago I met Mila, the president of the community of Ccorccor, in the upper part of the Piuray lagoon, and we became great friends, and doing the activities that she and her team have prepared becomes a day full of friendship and warmth of Andean home, this activity is designed for those looking for a more authentic and cultural experience, a visit to the community of Ccorccor in the Sacred Valley is an excellent choice. Here, you can get up close and personal with the daily life of the local inhabitants, learn about their ancestral traditions and participate in activities such as agriculture, pottery and traditional cooking. In addition to enjoying breathtaking mountain scenery while walking through the picturesque villages of the valley, this is an enriching experience that connects us with the history and culture of Peru!
And for the more adventurous families, the via ferrata and Zip Line in the Sacred Valley is an exciting option. Here, they can enjoy thrilling outdoor activities such as climbing rock walls with the help of ladders and safety cables, and sliding at full speed on zip lines through canyons and valleys. With the assistance of expert guides and top-quality safety equipment, you can enjoy a thrilling and safe experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime – an adventure that is sure to be the highlight of your family’s vacation!
