VININCUNCA, the most visited mountain in town
Adventure calls us! A few weeks ago I made a trip that I had pending and I share with you my experience in the incredible and very famous hike to Vinincunca, the mountain arociris or momhataña 7 colors. This place is simply spectacular and has become one of the most popular destinations in Cusco. It is a hike that should be on your travel list.
Before continuing, we must take into account the altitude where the mountain is located, we are talking about more than 5,000 meters above sea level, which can definitely affect us, but for that we must follow some important points as main recommendation is to arrive in Cusco a few days before the hike for the body to gradually adapt to the altitude, make other visits such as the tour of the sacred valley, the walk through the city and even after the visit to Machu Picchu. In addition, it is crucial to stay well hydrated, get enough rest and avoid overexertion.
How we get there?
We have to wake up very early, our guide passes by the hotel and in our private vehicle we take the southern route for almost 2.30 hrs, after a hot drink on board we arrive to Pitumarca where the hike begins, during the journey, we enjoy breathtaking landscapes that prepared us for what was to come.
Which one to choose? Vinincunca or Palcoyo?
Although Vinincunca is the most famous mountain of 7 colors, it is not the only one in the region, Vinincunca is part of the famous Red Valley, where we also find the other option called Palcoyo, the twin sister, which also offers breathtaking scenery but with less influx of tourists, the hike is softer to reach the highest part. The main difference lies in the accessibility and the amount of visible colors, it all depends on the season, considering that Cusco has 2 marked seasons, the rainy season from late October to April inicioa,
where the rains can spoil the visit, because if we have a heavy rain since the access will be more muddy and difficult to the view that can be covered by clouds and even snow, and the dry season, from mid-April until the beginning of October, where there are no rains but the temperature drops considerably. In short, Vinincunca requires a longer and more challenging hike, Palcoyo is easier to reach and offers a variety of equally stunning hues.
